Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association (SFMA)



Encouraged by the then Economic Development Board, Singapore Food Manufacturer's Association (SFMA) was formed in 1967 by a small group of like-minded local food manufacturers with the purpose of developing and promoting the local food manufacturing industry.


Into the New Millennium

Strong commitment and dedication by the working committee has seen their efforts pay off. Today, the SFMA is 240-members strong and is well recognized as the representative body and leading voice for Singapore-grown food-manufacturing companies, fully endorsed by Singapore governing bodies, I.E. Singapore (formerly TDB), and SPRING Singapore (formerly PSB). Members comprise small family concerns, small and medium enterprise, public-listed companies and brands, traders, raw material supplier companies related to the food industry.

The Association has a more prominent role to play in the new millennium. To keep up with the physical and changing needs of today's business environment, the SFMA launched its own website in 1999, focussing on the Association's objectives and desire to promote our local Brands and Foods to wider world audience. This is in line with the government's hope of seeing more "Made in Singapore" International Brand.

In 2000, the first Singapore Food Expo (SFE) was organized and held at Singapore Expo. The objective was to promote local brands at home, in a difficult economic period then. The success of the Expo went beyond our expectations. As such, the event has become a yearly Calendar event widely anticipated by consumers and visitors alike. Last year SFE 2002 saw more than 100 booths sold and a visitor count in excess of 500,000.

The SFMA has gone beyond promoting the relationship among members and the development of the food manufacturers. We are also looking into helping the food industry play a more active role in assisting local food producers go global in the face of changing economic landscape. Our role has presently evolved to include the following:

As representative body and voice for the food industry, the SFMA has taken the initiative to involved herself in various community projects and assistance schemes. Noteworthy projects include charity fund raising events, sponsorships and a annual scholarship fund set up for Singapore Polytechnic's Faculty for Food Technology.


Mission

To provide regional and international trade and business-matching opportunities for SFMA's members and serve as gateway for food-related foreign investments in Singapore, and thereby reinforcing SFMA as the leading organisation for food manufacturers in Singapore.
